Thai Saab 340 AEW Takes First Flight

A Saab 340 airborne early warning aircraft for Thailand has successfully completed its maiden flight.

The flight lasted for two hours and 14 minutes and all basic aircraft systems were tested during the flight.

The aircraft is a part of a larger order for six Gripen C/D with associated equipment and service, a Saab 340 AEW with Erieye radar and data links, one Saab 340 aircraft for transport and training along with a command and control system with data links.

Further flights are scheduled to take place in November 2009 and spring 2010 including interoperability trials.
