LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Nov. 23, 2009 — Boeing [NYSE: BA] has completed delivery of two more trainers for the U.S. Air Force’s C-130 Avionics Modernization Program (AMP) to Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark. The Avionics Part Task Trainer and Cockpit Familiarization Trainer were declared “Ready for Use” on Sept. 25 and Oct. 22, respectively.
The C-130 AMP was initiated to modernize, standardize and reduce total ownership costs for the United States Air Force C-130 fleet, including specialized versions in service with the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). It consolidates 13 Mission Design Series into one common core avionics suite with five mission families: One for Combat Delivery, which constitutes the majority of the C-130 fleet, and four for the unique Special Operations mission requirements.
Little Rock’s 314th Airlift Wing, Air Education and Training Command will be the government’s only location for training C-130 AMP aircrews on the operation of the aircraft’s upgraded avionics. Training will begin in October 2010.
“Our team’s hard work allowed us to deliver the Part Task Trainer a week early and the Cockpit Familiarization Trainer one month ahead of schedule,” said Mark Angelo, C-130 AMP program manager for Boeing.
The C-130 AMP modification enhances aircrews’ situational awareness both in theater and in civil airspace while delivering key warfighter capabilities.
Boeing delivered a full-motion, high-fidelity Weapon System Trainer to Little Rock in July. The final two trainers in this contract will be delivered in 2010 and 2013.
